From censorship to election interference to political and social polarisation, Donald J. Trump, the 45th and 47th President of the United States, has faced it all in what some refer to as the most tumultuous presidential run in history.
But, as always, many are left feeling cheated by a system that was supposed to be unbeatable. By a system that could not fail. By this, I of course mean that global system called the liberal left. Originally characterised by freedom, individuality, and fairness, the international status quo of this political ideology now encompasses the complete opposite, completely focused on censoring deserters, demonising and belittling free-thinkers, and physically destroying what is left.
This is why Trump won the 2024 Presidential Election. He is seen as the symbol of freedom that America once characterised. Not only this but his political views embody independence, libertarianism, and autonomy.
Some may disagree, referencing Roe v Wade, and the Republican “Project 2025” thinktank. For those people I say this, giving the freedom to choose abortion laws at the state level, similarly to every single judicial legislature that comes from state-level, is true libertarianism. In fact, when you forcibly invoke a constitutional case compelling all states, no matter the consensus within, to follow universal moral laws, you definitively enact authoritarianism. You may disagree with the outcome of the state, but that’s the joy of the democratic process, it allows us to locate the general idea, so it can be enacted. Blocking this process goes against democracy.
Secondly, politics in the United States works differently than anywhere else, we Europeans must understand this. Due to their extensive political history, facing numerous accounts of corruption, difficulties, and wars, when you verbally, and in this case, physically, attack a political leader, their supporters take it personally. This idea is something that we don’t have across the pond. But it completely explains why we got this outcome.
From permanent political polarisation, numerous inept criminal and civil cases, social media censorship, unequal perceptions and outrageous falsehoods, followers of Donald Trump saw this as an attack on their own beliefs. This, to me, is a completely rational train of thought considering that Trump faced politically motivated legal investigations including the Mueller investigation, Michael Cohen’s financial handlings, and his storage of classified information in Mar-a-Lago. Now, I won’t dispute some of the claims. But I will point out that Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden both had similar disputes, which Trump himself did not deal with whilst he was President because it would be ‘bad for the country‘.
However, this doesn’t touch upon the lack of free expression across social media before Elon Musk bought Twitter (now X). Previously, it was a hellhole filled with shadow banning, account terminations and speed reduction for anyone who went against the board of directors’ political point of view. Now, it is a space where you can say anything you would like if it fitted within the legal framework. It has opened a space to converse about any topic you would like, turning into the number one news app in the US and UK. But, as with everything, the so-called “libertarians” did not like the fact that speech was no longer controlled, because it meant their narrative was no longer being pushed and started to now have pushback. Furthermore, we have the altered FBI crime statistics which suggest that crime has been dropping since mid-2024, when in fact, the FBI reduced how many agencies conducted data gathering.
Moreover, instead of going along with the changes, and encouraging freedom of expression, the legacy media across the world started demonising Trump and his supporters, leading to further polarisation. However, what they did not account for, is the deserters. This 2024 election, as of writing, seems to have a similar turnout to previous ones. However, the turnout for the Democrats was far worse than in 2020, and the Republicans faired better. This means that the ex-democrats were the ones to win this 2024 Presidential Election. But even more interestingly, the biggest swing was in white women. Across the whole country, white women swung to the Republicans, winning the turnout 69%-31%.

The reason for this huge discrepancy is difficult to pinpoint. Most likely it is due to numerous factors. But the one that stands out to me was the Liberal Democrat obsession with abortion laws and the falsehoods they spread surrounding “Trump’s abortion bill” where he would block all abortions and birth control pills. Nonsense, I know. Other reasons could include the LGBTQ and transgender stance where they agree with biological men taking part in women’s sports or it could even be as simple as the Trump economy. We may not know for a while.
But, all this completely disregards the assassination attempt(s). Given the darkness surrounding the whole Butler, Pennsylvania situation, it is obvious that some tampering was going on. Firstly, it was a 20-year-old male with no training got 150 yards away from the 45th President holding an AR-15, flew a drone to conduct site surveillance, was spotted with a range finder, had advanced explosive devices on him and not one enforcement officer was placed to counter-sniper his location which was on top of the nearest water tower. The lack of information alongside the fact that none of this adds up, just increased Trump’s likeability, as shown by the polls during that time.
Finally, we have Trump’s actual policy. Basing his ideas on “America First”, he was able to pick up a huge lead during the start of their campaigns purely on his immigration policies. However, considering how dreadful the Biden-Harris administration was, it is no surprise this is what he ran on. Not only this, but he politically beat down the current administration’s treacherous foreign policy, referencing the likes of Afghanistan, where 13 service members were killed.

Ultimately, the saga of Donald J. Trump, from his first presidency to his re-election, encapsulates the narrative far beyond the man himself – it’s a story of Americans grappling with their identity in the modern world. Each challenge, from legal battles to media wars, from election disputes to assassination attempts, has not just been about Trump; they’ve been about the values that America and the free world stand for. His presidency will serve as a constant reminder of the demonisation, corruption, censorship, and undemocratic processes they almost faced. The only question left is, will he keep to his promises and use people like RFK Jr, Elon Musk, Tulsi Gabbard and Vivek Ramaswamy to Make America Great Again?
